Advertiser Information |
The Waggoner Cruising Guide is the annual guidebook for pleasure boating the Inside Passage waters of the Pacific Northwest—from Olympia, Wash. to Prince Rupert, B.C., and the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

The book contains complete and up-to-date information about overnight moorage at marinas and parks, anchorages, charts needed, piloting suggestions, VHF radio channels, weather stations, local knowledge, and interesting people and places along the way. The book is illustrated with 150 maps and 300 photographs.

The Waggoner was begun in 1994. It is by far the Northwest’s most popular boating guide.

Who Should Advertise |
Any business whose products and services are aimed at Northwest cruising boaters should look hard at the Waggoner Cruising Guide. This includes tourism bureaus, marinas, repair facilities, supplies and equipment for boats, boat charters, boats themselves, restaurants, grocery stores, real estate, even veterinary hospitals—whatever boaters need or would expect to find.

Each year, 9 out of 10 of the Waggoner’s 220+ advertisers renew for the following year. Waggoner advertising works.

Circulation |
To capture Christmas sales, for 2005 the Waggoner’s publication date changed from early January to the preceding November. Sales jumped 22%, to more than 9000 copies. Sales of the 2006 edition were 8600, down mostly because of fewer sales at the Seahawks-shortened Seattle Boat Show. 2007 sales were more than 8,000.

To date, nearly 5,000 copies of the 2008 edition have been shipped, and the spring and summer months lie ahead.

The 2009 print run will be in line with earlier years – 10,500 copies.

Distribution |
Most Waggoners are sold at marine supply stores, nautical chart agents, and nautical bookstores in the Northwest. Trade bookstores account for a much smaller percentage of sales. Direct sales at the Seattle Boat Show, mailing lists and Internet orders account for a little under 1000 copies.

Distribution in Canada is through Heritage House Publishers, in Surrey, B.C.

Promotion |
The Waggoner has a major presence in the Robert Hale & Co. Nautical Book Wholesaler display at the Seattle Boat Show in January. (We’ve displayed at the Seattle Boat Show since 1982.)

In the spring, the Waggoner runs regular ads in yachting magazines in B.C., Puget Sound and Northern California.

Robert Hale also makes presentations at yacht club and Power Squadrons meetings each year.
