WEATHER IN ALASKA

Dear Bob Hale - Editor,

Here is a piece for the Waggoner Cruising Guide website if you think it is appropriate to add AK-waters' info.

Linda, although the Waggoner doesn’t cover Alaska waters, Alaska-bound viewers will appreciate the information. Thanks for sending it. – Bob Hale

Weather Stations in SE AK - Names and Locations

Cruisers who travel to Prince Rupert have long been able to find a very helpful map of BC weather station names and locations in the Waggoner Cruising Guide. For those of us who continue past Prince Rupert, finding the names and locations of weather stations in SE Alaska has been harder. Unless you pick up a great little NOAA brochure at a boat show, you are pretty much out of luck. Even the NOAA address on the brochure doesn't help for locating more copies.

As of Dec. 2005, there is now a downloadable pdf file of this color map/brochure. Don't lose the web address because you will have a hard time finding it via any kind of web search.

Go to: http://pajk.arh.noaa.gov/brochures.php. Click on: "Mariner's Weather Guide - Gulf of Alaska Coastal Waters (including the Inside Passage)"

We have Chris Maier, a Warning Coordination Meteorologist in the Juneau NOAA weather office, to thank for this. He personally made it happen for Pacific Northwest boaters.
