Alaska and Back

September 21, 2010

Jennifer and James Hamilton, authors of our sister publication Cruising the Secret Coast, replaced their 40-foot Bayliner with a very carefully thought out 52-foot Nordhavn, and took the new boat to Alaska. Their blog, noted below, is an inspiration. Read, view and enjoy.

Hi Bob,

Well—we survived our trip. Actually we more than survived—we had a great time. We ended up running straight through, about 50 miles offshore, from Seattle almost to Glacier Bay. Coming back, we ran through Hecate Strait and then outside Vancouver Island. The boat ran perfectly there and back, and despite hitting some near gales in Hecate Strait and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the trip was pretty much without incident. We’ve posted a few pics at blog.mvdirona.com/2010/09/09/WhenDisplacementSpeedBeatsPlaningSpeed
