Things have been rolling along great here at Shearwater. The new resort has been getting great reviews from our guests who are enjoying their new accommodations.
The new resort has been getting great reviews from our guests!
The weather on the other hand hasn’t been the greatest but as we all know it is the West Coast of British Columbia so we more than expect there to be rain but then with the rain comes nice calm seas to fish, which is a nice trade off, and the fishing has been spectacular.
We have seen lots and lots of tyees hit the dock with quite a few 40 pounders also, and yesterday we had a 55 pound Chinook on the scales caught by Loretta May Humchitt. Way to go Loretta!
The biggest surprise is the size of the Coho coming in this early with Barbara Chennells landing a 19-pound whopper. Great job, Barbara.
The June Fish-In Derby was very competitive this year with Gordie Brodie just edging out 14 year old Kyle Nelson by 2 pounds with a 36 pound Chinook to win the overall largest Chinook title and winning a return trip back to Shearwater for 2012, congratulations Gordie.
We had a couple of incredible fishing derby's this year!
Heading into July we were all looking forward to the 4th Annual BC Outdoors Magazine’s Fishing Derby at Shearwater Resort which ran from July 18–22, 2012 with magazine editor Mike Mitchell and special guest Rod Pelley from the New Jersey Devils NHL Hockey Club.
What a battle this derby turned out to be with Ward Moran netting first and third place with a 38.5 & 34.5 lb Chinook and Steve Cuddy finishing in second place with a 37lb Chinook.
Ian Clark and Dave Owen finished off tied for fourth spot with twin 33 pounders.
Ian Clark won the largest Coho with a 17 ¾ pounds and Karl Emerson came in a close second with a 16 pound Coho.
There was a four way tie for 3rd place with Mike & Pat Cooper, Brendon Clark, and Ward Moran all having boated a 14 pound Coho.
Thanks again to Mike Mitchell and BC Outdoors Magazine for hosting this derby at Shearwater; we really look forward to next season.
