TV Antennas for Puget Sound

A reader named Carl (Haldean@centurytel.net) sent in this question, and we ask for ideas from anyone with experience.

December 18, 2000

In all your vast cruising experience, are you familiar with an effective and reasonably priced TV antenna for the Puget Sound?

Thanks,

Response

Well, you've asked about a subject on which I'm not well informed. We don't have a television set on the boat, so we've never had to solve this problem. Last summer, though, we visited friends on their boat, and they showed off their antenna system. It had to be aimed at a satellite in permanent orbit over the Gulf of Mexico, and the programing they got was fabulous. The only shortcoming was that the boat couldn't move or they'd lose the signal. They had to be tied to a dock or stern-tied pretty securely while at anchor. Our friends are in Hawaii for a few months, so I can't learn the name of their provider, or the antenna they used.

As for a conventional antenna for television reception, you have me. We'll post your inquiry on our Web site. Maybe one of our fans has a suggestion.
