Are you ever concerned about how to get your boat in the water without getting the salt on your trailer? Dave Lehman wrote in with this question:

I've been looking over your guide pretty closely to see if any of the marinas list whether they have sling or trolley type launchers so you don't have to get your trailer in the saltwater. I have a 225 Four Winns Sundowner (22 1/2 ft), with a painted (not galvanized) trailer. The trailer has never been in the salt. We have been looking at launching at La Conner, Bellingham, Anacortes, or Nanaimo. Your favorite at Port Alberni sounds interesting, too. Do any of these places have launch capability so you can save your trailer?

Thanks,
Dave Lehman

Most public launch areas are ramps that lead down into the dreaded saltwater. Many marinas, though, have slings or trolley arrangements, either at the marina itself or at a neighboring boatyard. I know LaConner has a trolley. Many yards have Travelifts. I'm sure they would charge more than a trolley launch.

As I think about it, though, so what if they charge more? It's not THAT much, especially compared to the entire cost of the trip.

If you do use a ramp, you might want to confirm fresh water availability for trailer washdown.

The Waggoner has complete telephone numbers. I think you'd be well advised to call around. While I could make those calls, you probably wouldn't want me to. You'll learn far more than if you went through an intermediary.

Keep the cards and letters coming. I enjoy them.
