In 1999, Ron Nelson sailed his Catalina 400 sailboat counter-clockwise around Vancouver Island, and did most of it single-handed. A click will take you to his web site, where he recounts the adventure. We enjoyed reading it, and we think anyone interested in cruising the Northwest will enjoy it, too. In his note to us, Ron included this paragraph:

After I did that trip, I decided that cruising with a sailboat didn't make a lot of sense, as at least 80% of the time you are under power with rain dripping off your nose. So I decided to move to the dark side and build a new trawler. I just finished the Cascade 36 trawler and I am ready to go. I plan to leave in a couple of weeks for a cruise to the south sound, which I always avoided when I had a sailboat.

Anyway, check out this web site: http://www.nwlink.com/~samca/windmist/.

Thanks, Ron Nelson
