This letter from a frustrated cruiser points up one reason why we research and publish the Waggoner.

Hello,

Nice publication...nice web site.

I've cruised the San Juans and Gulf Islands four times now, and a big frustration occurs each time. As a proper sailor I turn on the VHF in the morning to get the weather, but it's generally useless since I don't know where in the heck "Point Nowhere" is.

"Winds 30, gusting to 50, at Cape Somewhere...10 to 12 at
Turn-Around-Point..." is worse than no information at all if I don't know the area, i.e., the points of reference.

Is there a resource which gives a loaction for the reporting stations? I sure didn't find it on the web.

Thanks, and keep up the good work, Norm

Hi, Norm,

Ask and ye shall receive. As I'm sure you suspect, this information is available. The question is where, and the answer is several places, if you know where to look. We looked, and we presented the complete story in the Waggoner.

A map with every reporting station serving the waters from Olympia to Prince Rupert (and other important weather radio information added) is on p. 36 of the 2003 Waggoner. You'll find that it answers not only all your questions, but questions you hadn't thought to ask. We're proud of it.
