Is a Lectra-San head legal in Puget Sound? And where is it not legal?
 Thanks, Craig

Hi, Craig,

I checked with the experts -- Marine Sanitation, in Seattle. The Lectra-San system is legal for use in U.S. waters except where overboard discharge of even treated waste is not allowed. This includes anywhere within the city limits of Seattle, while docked, and any marina that prohibits discharge. The lady at Marine Sanitation said most marinas don't permit discharge.

In British Columbia, the bays and inlets designated "No Discharge" prohibit even treated waste. Thus, you would need a holding tank in those areas. As you perhaps know, if you pump treated waste into a holding tank the unkilled bacteria multiply very rapidly, negating the benefit of the Lectra-San. One possibility is to pump into the holding tank first, then run the waste through the Lectra-San when you empty the tank in permitted waters. I'm told, however, that at the present, this really isn't an option with the Lectra-San equipment. So you'll just have to pump the reconstituted waste either in legal waters of B.C. or visit a pumpout station to empty the holding tank.
